Thirteen by Steve Cavanagh
I’ve heard a lot about this book before I even picked it up. And the idea of the murderer sitting on the jury was the most intriguing aspect of all. I’ve read some great thrillers recently, The Whisper Man, The Chestnut Man and The Nanny during last year’s #thrilleroctober and I enjoyed them all!! The genre is amazing for audiobooks. They really make you sit on the edge of the seat.

The serial killer isn’t on trial.
He’s on the jury. It’s the murder trial of the century. And Joshua Kane has killed to get the best seat in the house – and to be sure the wrong man goes down for the crime. Because this time, the killer isn’t on trial. He’s on the jury.
But there’s someone on his tail. Former-conman-turned-criminal-defense-attorney Eddie Flynn doesn’t believe that his movie-star client killed two people. He suspects that the real killer is closer than they think – but who would guess just how close?

MY THOUGHTS
I was surprised by how long it took me to get into the book. It wasn’t an instant “OMG what am I reading” kind of experience. But the story snuck up on me. With each chapter it slowly got better. And I was getting more and more involved in the case. And then I was HOOKED!!!
When I listened to the book I wasn’t aware that the novel was part of a series, the Eddie Flynn series, and the character Eddie Flynn was currently in the middle of a personal crises, his marriage was on the rocks. Also, I didn’t realize that he was a con-man before he became a lawyer, and that certainly makes for a great backstory. His friendship with a judge, was also an aspect I really enjoyed, especially when that particular judge was presiding over a murder case Eddie was defending.
Overall, I devoured the last 3/4 of the book. From the moment it picked up to the very end, I was glued to my iPhone. Tense and thrilling moments, and some real twists and turns kept me invested until the last word. The plot was very well structured, and the storyline worked perfectly as a thriller. It was like finding puzzle pieces until the reader and everyone else saw the bigger picture.
All in all, I really enjoyed this book. And I’m grateful for all the recommendations regarding Thirteen. Because I don’t think I would have found or picked it up otherwise. It was my first book by Steve Cavanagh, but it won’t be my last.

I read this book without reading any of the other books in the series, too. It was enjoyable and I do need to go back and read the others. Great review!
I’m not sure I’ll be going back in the series, I met the characters at this point, and I think I want to move forward with them, instead of back. But I’m really excited about the next one Fifty Fifty, coming in August.
Lovely review, very interesting and thoroughly enjoyable! Thanks for sharing ❤️ ❤️ ❤️
Thank you ?

Ooh I read this one last year I think and really liked it (and just recently read the next book, Fifty Fifty) I still need to go back and read the rest of the series (I also didn’t realise it was a series haha) but I really like the author’s writing, the other book by him I’ve read is the standalone Twisted
I can’t wait to read Fifty Fifty, I think it already was released in the UK, I’ll have to be patient until August – lol
Aw well hopefully you get to read it when it releases then!
