Matrimony meets mayhem in a modern British romcom about a young woman charged with pulling off the biggest aristocratic wedding of the year––and the misadventures that ensue.
Sophie Breeze is a brilliant bridesmaid. So brilliant, in fact, that she’s made it her full-time job.
As a professional bridesmaid, Sophie is hired by London brides to be their right-hand woman, posing as a friend but working behind the scenes to help plan the perfect wedding and ensure their big day goes off without a hitch. When she’s hired by Lady Victoria Swann––a former model and “It Girl” of 1970’s London; now the Marchioness of Meade––for the society wedding of the year, it should be a chance for Sophie to prove just how talented she is.
Of course, it’s not ideal that the bride, Lady Victoria’s daughter, Cordelia, is an absolute diva and determined to make Sophie’s life a nightmare. It’s also a bit inconvenient that Sophie finds herself drawn to Cordelia’s posh older brother, who is absolutelyoff limits. But when a rival society wedding is announced for the very same day, things start to get…well, complicated.
Can Sophie pull off the biggest challenge of her career––execute a high-profile gala for four hundred and fifty guests in record time, win over a reluctant bride, and catch the eye of handsome Lord Swann––all while keeping her true identity a secret, and her dignity intact?
Heartwarming and hilarious, The Secret Bridesmaid celebrates the joys (and foibles) of weddings, the nuances of female friendship, and the redeeming power of love in its many unexpected forms.

THE SECRET BRIDESMAID BY KATY BIRCHALL AUDIOBOOK REVIEW
I received a copy of this book from the publisher for free in exchange for an honest review. My opinions have not been influenced by the publisher or the author.
I LOVE British novels; romances, literature, it all works for me. And it’s even better if I can listen to the audiobook. A British narrations always makes me smile and this one did just that with its easy and entertaining story.
It’s rare that I buy a book because of its cover, but I made an exception for this one. I even went and got myself the US edition compared to the cheaper UK version, because I loved this particular cover so much. It’s a bit ironic, since I bought the book because of its British voice, but picked the US cover to go with it.
So, about the book. I thought it was a romance when I bought it, but it felt and sounded more like chick lit to me. If I had to guess I would say that 15% of the book is about the romance between Sophie and her love interest. That said, I ended up really enjoying the story. From the insane wedding expectations and demands, to the frenemies situation between bride and bridesmaid. The book was wonderfully entertaining, and had some really great characters.
I can’t imagine making being a bridesmaid into a career, but Sophie knew what she was doing. She had it down to a science. The organisation, the knowhow and connections, but most of all she knew how to handle the craziness of it all. And besides all that, she was a down to earth and truly likeable character. Also seeing her and Cordelia clash heads was fun, and most of all I loved how It all ended.
The book was well balanced between the fun and the more thoughtful storyline about female friendships. I sometimes feel we make it extra hard on ourselves when it comes to friendships. Either way, I love where Sophie and Cordelia ended up, and would actually like to read a sequel about them and Sophie and her love interest.

The Secret Bridesmaid by Katy Birchall | AUDIOBOOK REVIEW
Such a great review. This one looks like something I would enjoy. I can’t imagine being a career bridesmaid either, but it’s nice that it works for Sophie.
Thank you 😊 It sounds like a really stressful job, but she knew how to handle Bridezillas – lol.
This sounds like so much fun! I’m glad it wasn’t a bust considering there wasn’t as much romance as suspected.
Also — this book reminds me of the Kevin Hart movie The Wedding Ringer. Just with the hired fake attendant.
I felt the same, it could have been a huge disappointment on top of feeling cheated, but thanks to a really great audiobook it all worked out fo the best 😀 – and you are right, it does!!!!!
Great review Corina. I love that cover. I enjoy books about female friendships and this one sound wonderful. I will have to see if I can find the audiobook.
Thank you Carla, the audiobook was solid. Hope you’ll enjoy it when you get to it.
