I have been a big fan of all things GA Aiken and Shelly Laurenston (pen-name). Every now and then I love a great fantasy series, with epic battles, strong women, and laugh out loud dialogues – the whole enchilada. And I know that this author delivers, and not surprisingly this series had it all – non-stop entertainment for me.
In New York Times bestselling author G.A. Aiken’s gripping new fantasy romance series, the Blacksmith Queen must confront armies and pretenders desperate to take her new-won crown. But with the Princess Knight at her side and a centaur warrior clan at her back, she’ll risk everything for victory . . .
LONG LIVE THE QUEEN
Gemma Smythe dedicated her life to the glory of battle. With her fellow War Monks, she worshipped the war gods, rained destruction on her enemies, and raised the dead when the fancy took her. Until her sister Keeley became the prophesied Blacksmith Queen, and Gemma broke faith with her order to journey to the Amichai Mountain and fight by Keeley’s side.
The Amichai warriors are an unruly, never-to-be-tamed lot, especially their leader-in-waiting, Quinn. But when the War Monks declare support for Gemma’s ruthless younger sister Beatrix, the immaturity of her key ally is the least of Gemma’s problems. She has to get to the grand masters, dispel their grudge against her, and persuade them to fight for Keeley and justice. If her conviction can’t sway them, perhaps Quinn’s irritating, irreverent, clearly unhinged, ferocity will win the day . . .

MY THOUGHTS & REVIEW
At this point I’m used to the signature style of a GA Aiken fantasy series. There is blood, guts and glory. Strong women wielding hammers, swords and bows. Fantastic and hilarious side characters. Storylines that never get boring. All in all, great stories to escape in.
If you haven’t read the first book in this new series, The Blacksmith Queen or even the original series which started it all Dragon Kin, you really should start at the beginning. It’s worth it.
As with many of the author’s other books, this one has multiple POVs from recurring characters and builds on the storyline from The Blacksmith Queen. It’s a continuous plot that only gets more interesting with each book. Although each book has its own battles which are being resolved, the biggest enemy is always being dispatched at the end of the series.
About this book:
I enjoyed Gemma’s storyline as much as Keeley’s from The Blacksmith Queen. Both are distinctively different women, but since they are sisters they are destined to push each other’s buttons in a typical GA Aiken/Shelly Laurenston way, which they do constantly and with glee. Keeley is still very much a main character, which makes sense since she is the Queen and family to Gemma.
The friendships in The Princess Knight were wonderfully satisfying, with lots of banter and teasing. The author’s signature humor was everywhere. Both Gemma and Quinn could be a bit ridiculous at times, but it just added to the overall fun of the story. Also they matched beautifully, had each other’s back, and almost understood one another without talking. Overall a pretty awesome couple.
For me Gemma and Quinn’s romance was even more slow burn than in The Blacksmith Queen. I feel the romance is just an afterthought at this point, and the fantasy and the story-building is in the main draw. So, please don’t expect much romance, this is really mostly a fantasy series.
BONUS: the book has the BEST ending for FANS of the Dragon Kin Series. I CAN’T WAIT FOR THE NEXT ONE!!!!!

I’m so in love with this series!! The next book can’t come soon enough for me. And thanks for introducing me to this author’s other work under the name Shelly Laurenston 💜
That ending 😍😍😍😍 there is so much fun waiting for us!!! And you’re welcome 😊 I think I found SL because of the dragons, or maybe the other way around 🤔 don’t remember anymore, except that I love her writing
That ending was insanely intriguing! I have no idea what’s gonna happen next, I just know it’ll be awesome! I love these fierce warriors!!
I have been really curious about this series here and I will say that even though I do need to be in the mood for her humor style, when I am….its gold!!
Lovely review hun!
I know what you mean, like with all other books it really depends on my mood

If you haven’t read any of her other books, you must read the one series that started it all, and you need to meet Annwyl the Bloody, start with Dragon Actually
