A Cinderella story with deadly stakes and thrilling twists, perfect for fans of One of Us is Lying and Knives Out.
Avery Grambs has a plan for a better future: survive high school, win a scholarship, and get out. But her fortunes change in an instant when billionaire Tobias Hawthorne dies and leaves Avery virtually his entire fortune. The catch? Avery has no idea why–or even who Tobias Hawthorne is.
To receive her inheritance, Avery must move into sprawling, secret passage-filled Hawthorne House, where every room bears the old man’s touch–and his love of puzzles, riddles, and codes. Unfortunately for Avery, Hawthorne House is also occupied by the family that Tobias Hawthorne just dispossessed. This includes the four Hawthorne grandsons: dangerous, magnetic, brilliant boys who grew up with every expectation that one day, they would inherit billions. Heir apparent Grayson Hawthorne is convinced that Avery must be a con-woman, and he’s determined to take her down. His brother, Jameson, views her as their grandfather’s last hurrah: a twisted riddle, a puzzle to be solved. Caught in a world of wealth and privilege, with danger around every turn, Avery will have to play the game herself just to survive.

BOOK REVIEW
MY THOUGHTS
The Inheritance Games is being compared to Knives Out and I can see where the comparison comes from. Secrets. Mysteries. Agendas. And an inheritance. Lots to enjoy!
Overall, I had a good time listening to the audiobook. And not surprisingly enjoyed the mystery part the most. The riddles. The clues. And of course the mysterious connection between the heroine and the Hawthornes.
Avery was a great heroine, she wasn’t a push over, and she used her smarts and wit to fit into he role of billionaire heiress. Of course she was attracted to not just one Hawthorne but TWO. But fortunately the “love triangle” didn’t take away from the plot. Also I must say, all four Hawthornes were interesting characters, unique and different in their own way. Moreover it’s easy to see why Avery felt such an attraction for them.
The Inheritance Games is the perfect novel for anyone loving young adult contemporary novels. It’s well written, has an interesting plot, some mystery, and lots of chemistry and attraction. AND it looks like this is only the first book in a series – which is great news because I’m up for it.
Also not a surprise, but I was glued to my phone thanks to the big mystery surrounding Avery’s inheritance. I also can’t wait to read more because there are many questions that I still need to get answered. And thanks to a great narration I was immediately ensnared by the story and finished the audiobook in just three days. So again no surprise here, the novel DELIVERED!!!

The Inheritance Games by Jennifer Lynn Barnes | AUDIOBOOK REVIEW
I recently bought this book. I hope I like it. Would the audiobook be better?
I enjoyed the audiobook but think you’ll be fine with just the book. When it comes to performance it’s just a regular audiobook.
Ooo! I need to check this out if it’s for fans of One of Us Is Lying.
I think you would like it! It’s a different kind of YA mystery, nobody got killed – lol, but I would say it fits the category 😊
So good!! I was on the blog tour in August and I loved this book more than I thought I would!! Great review!
Leslie, I think your blog post was the one that got me interested in the book 😀
Ooohhh!! That’s awesome!! I’m glad that you ended up liking it. I always get so nervous that people will hate what I rave about. haha 🙂
You know it’s all about personal taste, I’m nervous that others don’t love my favorite books as well! Books are just so personal, you never know what people like and are looking forward to in a story.
Exactly!! Totally okay if they don’t but I hope they know that we all read books differently! So much pressure though. haha.
I feel the same!
That one definitely intrigues me!
Sophie, I bet you would enjoy it!
