She’s got his back.
Hannah Brooks looks more like a kindgerten teacher than somebody who could kill you with a wine bottle opener. Or a ballpoint pen. Or a dinner napkin. But the truth is, she’s an Executive Protection Agent (aka “bodyguard”), and she just got hired to protect superstar actor Jack Stapleton from his middle-aged, corgi-breeding stalker. He’s got her heart.
Jack Stapleton’s a household name—captured by paparazzi on beaches the world over, famous for, among other things, rising out of the waves in all manner of clingy board shorts and glistening like a Roman deity. But a few years back, in the wake of a family tragedy, he dropped from the public eye and went off the grid. They’ve got a secret.
When Jack’s mom gets sick, he comes home to the family’s Texas ranch to help out. Only one catch: He doesn’t want his family to know about his stalker. Or the bodyguard thing. And so Hannah—against her will and her better judgment—finds herself pretending to be Jack’s girlfriend as a cover. Even though her ex, like a jerk, says no one will believe it.What could possibly go wrong???
Hannah hardly believes it, herself. But the more time she spends with Jack, the more real it all starts to seem. And there lies the heartbreak. Because it’s easy for Hannah to protect Jack. But protecting her own, long-neglected heart? That’s the hardest thing she’s ever done.

AUDIOBOOK REVIEW
I received a copy of this book from the publisher for free in exchange for an honest review. My opinions have not been influenced by the publisher or the author.
Every Katherine Center novel is more than just what you see on the surface. Her books are feel good novels, with wonderful characters, emotional backstories and sweet and caring heroes.
My favorite KC novels are still HOW TO WALK AWAY and THINGS YOU SAVE IN A FIRE they were memorable, outstanding and one of a kind. But all of her books are well written, with wonderful and likeable characters.
THE BODYGUARD is probably her sweetest most light hearted romance yet, with a sweet and caring Hollywood actor, pretty down to earth if I’m honest, and a heroine who can kick his ass if she wanted. Not everything was believable, but it was certainly entertaining.
I enjoyed the heroine being a bodyguard. I don’t think I ever read about a female bodyguard before, although Linda Howard had a heroine who is a butler and hired to guard too. And I really appreciated it that the author kept it as authentic and believable as possible. The hero was down to earth for all his Hollywood success and genuinely nice. And together they made for an unlikely couple.
Overall the book was just a tad too sweet for me to love it, and I wasn’t convinced by their feelings. But that doesn’t mean much. Because in the end it’s a solid romance, that will appeal to many readers. It has just the right amount of emotional depth (usually the author digs deeper), as always great writing, and a fun Hollywood trope with many likeable characters.
About the audiobook: I finished the book in just a few days. The narration was well done, and it was an easy and quick read. A definite must, if you love to listen to romance books.

The Bodyguard by Katherine Center | AUDIOBOOK REVIEW
This is my first book from Katherine Center and I enjoyed it. I agree with a lot of what you wrote. I liked Jack and thought he was a total sweetheart. I wish there had been just a tad more romance though.
I feel like this is the most romance she has written so far, most of her books are much more women’s fiction. I would say last year’s What You Wish For has more romance as well. Since How to Walk Away was my first KC book and the one that blew me away, her most recent books are a different kind of change to me. I’m almost bored by her latest stories, too light hearted, too sweet – especially if I start comparing them to HTWA. Either way, I love her writing, so I’ll be continuing, I just want to read something that’s a bit different from all the other books out there.
This is my first Katherine Center as well; I’m almost finished with it. It reads to me like a romcom movie… lighthearted but just cute enough to be on screen. It’s not my favorite, but it’s okay.
Agree with you!! I think 50% of her books are light hearted, and then you have something like How to Walk Away, which just blew me away. I can only recommend you picking it up. I still remember all the feels, how amazed I was about the writing. It gave me goosebumps.
It’s nice to hear the audio was good. I loved reading this book. I liked that it was a romance and not women’s fiction since it was still her amazing writing. Something new, you know? I am with you, though. How to Walk Away might always be my favorite of hers. Great review!
Thank you! And I agree it was much more romance cantered compared to her other books. I’m still hoping for another How to Walk Away 😀
