BOOK REVIEW
MY THOUGHTS
Wow, I knew from the moment I read the blurb that this book would be something else, and I was right!
Surrender Your Sons is a fantastic debut novel, that speaks to the heard, is eye opening, thought provoking, and timely. The story is dark, raw, and very emotional. But besides all that it’s also unique, incredibly well written, and needs to be read.
Surrender Your Sons is a timeless adventure novel, that is being turned upside down. Religious queer and trans youth are being kidnapped and transported to a secret conversion camp to be “cured”. The adventure part is thrilling, but the overall topic is very emotional.
It’s incredibly sad to know that some parents can’t love and accept their kids the way they are. And just the idea that these kind of conversion camps actually exist, and something queer kids have to go through is mind-boggling. The horror of it all left me petrified.
Overall the book was excellent, and the audiobook was very well done. I loved the narrator’s accent and the way he brought Connor’s spunky and brave personality so perfectly to live. Big thumbs up!!!!

This book sounds really good and important, I am definitely gonna be checking it out
I felt the same! It’s definitely a book that should be read.
Great review Corinna. I thought those places had been outlawed. I guess it was just wishful thinking on my part.
Thank you Carla!! And I thought the same, but on the author’s homepage, he is partnering with an organization to end conversion therapy, so it sounds like it’s still legal. Which is just mind-boggling.
It is mind-boggling.
I wanted to try the audiobook but the voice just didn’t do it for me!
I’ve noticed he speaks with a pronounced accent, and I can see how it might not be for everyone. There is always reading the book the regular way 😊
Wow! What an interesting book topic. I hadn’t heard of it before. I’m glad it was good.
It’s one of those books that stand out from the crowd. Different!
I literally just finished this audiobook and I loved it as well. It was both terrifying and funny.
Terrifying and funny describes it well – I loved the balance of it, otherwise it would have been an emotionally draining reading experience.
