This is one book that left me speechless. After finishing the book I was still reeling from how profoundly touching, raw, and emotionally this novel was. And although I’m a long-term fan of Tijan, it did not prepare me for this tremendously beautiful story.
I crawled into Ryan Jensen’s bed that first night by accident.
I barely knew him. lI thought it was his sister’s bed—her room. It took seconds to realize my error, and I should’ve left…
I didn’t jump out.
lI didn’t get embarrassed.
And that night, in that moment, it was the only thing I craved.
I asked to stay. He let me, and I slept.
The truth? I never wanted to leave his bed. If I could’ve stayed forever, I would have.
He became my sanctuary.
Because—four hours earlier—my twin sister killed herself.
Ryan’s Bed by Tijan
I thought Ryan’s Bed would be a typical TIJAN novel. It wasn’t. It exceeded all my expectations.
When I read a TIJAN book I expect certain things.
A young adult novel that is filled to the brim with teenage angst and emotional ups and downs. ✔️
A strong and feisty heroines with a group of supporting characters that stand by her when everything else crumbles. ✔️
And a swoony hero who is devoted to the heroine from the very beginning. ✔️
Not surprising, all these ingredients make for a captivating read. Ryan’s Bed had every one of the aforementioned characteristics but it also had so much more! So, it’s not surprising that I loved and adored every single second of this novel.
And then came the punch.
And WOW what a punch it was! I didn’t see it coming and it just SQUEEZED my heart until tears pooled in my eyes.
However, let’s back up for a moment.
Mackenzie and Ryan were one of Tijan’s best couples yet. They slowly opened up to each other, told their story, and showed each other what has been hiding behind their public masks for so long. All the emotions, that were brewing and were pushed away, hidden and forgotten, suddenly came to the forefront with a vengeance. The ensuing transformation was needed for both of them, but also emotionally charged.
The entirety of their relationship was beautiful.
Although their relationship grew out of a need and a desire to be seen, it never once was anything other than radiant with a sense of righteousness. Both, Mackenzie and Ryan were able to finally let go, to be themselves with each other. Because of it, their relationship was cemented in trust, empathy, understanding and most of all, undeniable love. Their bond was unbreakable. And it was one of the most beautiful aspects of the book. Mackenzie and Ryan were a perfect match. They saw each other for who they truly were and acknowledged each other’s “scars”. And most of all they could empathize with one another and understood how deeply each was wounded.
The journey that Mackenzie and Ryan took was beautiful, but also heart-breaking. The emotions in this book felt overwhelmingly raw at times. And for me, Ryan’s Bed is Tijan’s most emotionally touching novel yet.
I’m not ashamed to admit that I was a wreck afterwards. The book made me cry and I’m not an overly emotional person at all! However, while reading this novel, I had tears in my eyes.
AND OMG THAT ENDING!!!!! IT SHATTERED ME WITH ITS REVELATION. BUT MOST OF ALL IT WAS UTTER PERFECTION!
I could continue to gush about this book, but I’ll just leave you with this – I loved every moment of Ryan’s Bed. Two thumbs up and my highest recommendation.
