Netgalley Readathon & Challenge
I just came across this NetGalley challenge by The Library Looter & Anniek’s Library and I thought it couldn’t have come at a better moment in time. Here in California we are still having a mandatory Shelter in Place, that means I actually have time to read.
NetGalley has always been DANGEROUS for me. I want to read ALL the books, and because of it my NetGalley shelf gets quite crowded. I’m also a mood reader – which makes things even more interesting since ARCs can easily get shuffled to the bottom of my tbr. Having a challenge like this is hopefully an incentive for me to pick up a couple books from my NetGalley tbr next week.
The readathon lasts from Monday April 20 to Sunday April 26, and the goal is to read exclusively Netgalley titles during this time!
Additionally the hosts added a couple challenges as well:
- Read a hyped book
- Read your oldest title
- Read your newest title
- Read your longest title
- Read your shortest title
- Read an upcoming release
- Read a book with a pretty cover
Of course I’m not kidding myself thinking that I could finish all seven challenges next week, but even if I only read one book from my NetGalley tbr, it’s a success.
At the moment I have 12 titles on my NG shelf, and 7 are older than three month.
Here are the books I’m hoping to read:
Read a hyped book
A Bad Day for Sunshine Darynda Jones
Publication 07 Apr 2020
Read your newest title
Dragon Unleashed Grace Draven
Publication 09 Jun 2020
Read a book with a pretty cover
If I Never Met You Mhairi McFarlane
Publication 24 Mar 2020
Read an upcoming release
Starbreaker Amanda Bouchet
Publication 28 Apr 2020
How does your NetGalley shelf look like? Could it use some TLC? Do you have NetGalley goals, like reaching a certain feedback ratio?
Netgalley Readathon
Thank you for joining!! I hope you’ll have fun!
Thanks for hosting π I needed a push, my NetGalley shelf felt neglected.
Good luck with the challenge! I gave up Netgalley several years back after stressing myself out with all the ARCs, but I’m considering carefully creeping back in.
Thank you ?, and you are so right!!! There is not doubt about NetGalley being a stress factor for many reviewers. I remember requesting so many books at the beginning, when I just started out, and the pressure to read them all on time was insane. Additionally to NetGalley I also got ARCs from PR companies. It got to a point when I just couldn’t do it anymore. So I stopped requesting ARCs from PR companies, and only pick the ARCs that I really NEED to have. The rest can always wait until release day.
That’s where I’m at now. I only get the ARCs of the books that I would have bought the book anyway. I do have some exceptions, though, and that’s just for the authors that send me ARCs with zero expectations attached.
This sounds like an excellent challenge. In the past week I’ve abandoned the idea of reading an ARC when it should be read because some of them have felt like a struggle, which isn’t fair to the author or the book. So I’m pleasure-reading my ARCs, which is probably like you’re mood reading. π
I hear you!!! I learned that the hard way. My brain did not want to read any ARCs at all, so I mostly re-read favorite books. I’m a mood reader, and my reading experience can be so different if I’m not in the right mood. Like you said, it’s not fair to the authors. I’ll keep that in mind when I read ARCs this week.
oh this challenge just sounds so perfect. Its always good to work on your netgalley reads. I am slowly working on getting my ratio up to 100%….I am at 91…its a work in progress. lol I hope you are able to get through some reads and get that ratio up.
I have my eyes on 100% too, I’m back on 90% , but this last stretch is SLOW going – lol
Yes its so slow going, and most of the books are just backlogged books some from years ago that I totally forgot about. lol But we will both get there, I have faith. π
Together!!! Are you participating in next week’s Readathon?
Good luck with your readathon!
Thank you π
I REALLY need this readathon too!
I haven’t read A bad day for sunshine…yet but I loved the authors other series.
Happy reading!
It came at the right time that’s for sure π I hope I can check off a couple books this week.
I wish I knew about this sooner, but I still might do it later on during the year.
I bet someone will host is again – or even BETTER you can host one π Let me know and I’ll participate because I always need to read my NetGalley arcs.
I hope this went well. Did you get A Bad Day For Sunshine read? I’m really curious about that one (tempted to get it out of the library when they reopen).
I did get to read it. It took me a little to get into the book, but I was hooked by the end, and can’t wait to read the next one. It’s pretty entertaining, with a great cast, LOL moments, great banter and a fast paced story.
I’m glad you enjoyed it βΊοΈ I’ll definitely have to check it out. I love good banter in books and have wanted to read something by the author for a while.
