This is probably next to WHERE THE LOST WANDER my most favorite Amy Harmon book. It blew my mind when I read it in 2014. It’s emotional, beautifully written, and has so much depth. Most of all it’s so much more than just a YA novel.
Ambrose Young was beautiful. He was tall and muscular, with hair that touched his shoulders and eyes that burned right through you. The kind of beautiful that graced the covers of romance novels, and Fern Taylor would know. She’d been reading them since she was thirteen. But maybe because he was so beautiful he was never someone Fern thought she could have…until he wasn’t beautiful anymore.
Making Faces is the story of a small town where five young men go off to war, and only one comes back. It is the story of loss. Collective loss, individual loss, loss of beauty, loss of life, loss of identity. It is the tale of one girl’s love for a broken boy, and a wounded warrior’s love for an unremarkable girl. This is a story of friendship that overcomes heartache, heroism that defies the common definitions, and a modern tale of Beauty and the Beast, where we discover that there is a little beauty and a little beast in all of us.

MY THOUGHTS & REVIEW
So, the reason why I’m finally sitting down and writing a review for MAKING FACES is that I recently listened to the audiobook. And it was as touching and unforgettable as when I read it the first time 6 years ago.
The book is still one of the most emotional, and impactful YA novels I’ve read so far. A must read for anyone loving an incredibly well written novel.
Also, just be aware that this book is emotional. The story will pull on your heartstrings and although I don’t usually shed tears during movies or books, I teared up reading MAKING FACES.
It has a wonderful love story and one of the most amazing friendships. It also made me laugh. Swoon. And cry.
MAKING FACES is a thoughtful and well written story. A story that has stayed with me for 6 years. I remember it all. All the feels. And how fresh and unique the book felt compared to other YA novels.
Ambroise, Fern and Bailey made the most wonderful characters. And I truly wish Bailey could have had his own book with a HEA. Bailey was one of the shining stars in this book. He made me laugh, and his friendships with Fern was the most wonderful thing. And then there was Ambroise, who was utterly swoon worthy. Bailey compared him to Hercules and he wasn’t wrong with his comparison. These three were the heart and soul of this book, and boy did they own it!!
So, if you haven’t read MAKING FACES, go and grab yourself a copy. The paperback is only $5.59 and the ebook is free with Kindle Unlimited. You won’t regret it.
It currently has a rating of 4.32 (59,178 ratings) on Goodreads
and 4.7 out of 5 (3,200 global ratings) on Amazon.

Book Review: Making Faces by Amy Harmon
Gosh I fell in love with Amy’s writing after I read The Law of Moses and The Bird and the Sword. I swear I read the blurb for this one and knew this one too was going to tug and tug at my heart until I couldn’t anymore. But gosh do I want to read it after your review. Thank you so much. Amy’s writing has always been emotional and deep and you’ve captured that beautifully in your words.
