From number one New York Times bestselling author Colleen Hoover comes a novel that explores life after tragedy and the enduring spirit of love.
When Leeds meets Layla, he’s convinced he’ll spend the rest of his life with her – until an unexpected attack leaves Layla fighting for her life. After weeks in the hospital, Layla recovers physically, but the emotional and mental scarring has altered the woman Leeds fell in love with. In order to put their relationship back on track, Leeds whisks Layla away to the bed-and-breakfast where they first met. Once they arrive, Layla’s behavior takes a bizarre turn. And that’s just one of many inexplicable occurrences.
Feeling distant from Layla, Leeds soon finds solace in Willow – another guest of the B&B with whom he forms a connection through their shared concerns. As his curiosity for Willow grows, his decision to help her find answers puts him in direct conflict with Layla’s well-being. Leeds soon realizes he has to make a choice because he can’t help both of them. But if he makes the wrong choice, it could be detrimental for all of them.

BOOK REVIEW
MY THOUGHTS
I must admit I wasn’t sure about Layla. Firstly I don’t read as much PNR anymore. And secondly ever since Colleen Hoover wrote Verity, which I still have to read, I’m NERVOUS – lol.
Fortunately all the trepidation was unfounded, I actually enjoyed the audiobook and finished it in a couple days. Thanks to a fantastic male narration – very sexy voice – and an engaging plot I read it in no time.
My thoughts about this book:
- I actually enjoyed the plot. The paranormal part of it was right up my alley.
- The twist was ok but overall not very shocking. It was tame compared to some others but it fit the PNR theme, and I was there for it.
- The dynamic between the main characters was what made the book interesting. It was ever shifting.
- Loved the creep factor – it’s a great October/November read.
Also, a tip from me: Go into the book blind!
Overall I wasn’t disappointed by the book but I wasn’t amazed by it either. It was entertaining, well written, and interesting – all things I had hoped for.
I got the KU version, which included the audiobook. I can only recommend grabbing a KU subscription. After I finished listening, I actually went and got myself a couple other audiobooks that come with KU titles. You got to use the program to the fullest.

Layla by Colleen Hoover
Great review! It’s a book that I’m still not completely sure about, even months later. It does a good job making you think about that dynamic though, so I think it’s successful overall.
Thank you π itβs an interesting plot the author went for, the dynamic was one that could easily go both way for readers.
Great review! I haven’t read anything by this author but now I think I should.
Thank you π I read her last contemporary YA and her last romance and loved them both. Can only recommend it!
Layla was hard for me to review. I didn’t necessarily see the twist coming at first and so I was really mad at the MC for doing what he did. Once things made sense to me, my thoughts on this book changed. I’m glad the audio was good!
I can see how the twist changes perspective. And honestly she has done it before where I rooted for one person only to find out he is the baddie π her twists are legendary
They really are.
I really love those ever evolving dynamic between a couple, it definitely keeps the reader on their toes. So happy this one worked out so well for you.
Lovely review.
Thank you, and their dynamic did keep my engaged. It was interesting to see where it all ended up.
I donβt read paranormal books, but appreciated your review of this one. π
You’re welcome π
