Tessa Bailey is back with a Schitt’s Creek-inspired rom-com about a Hollywood “It Girl” who is cut off from her wealthy family and exiled to a small Pacific Northwest beach town… where she butts heads with a surly, sexy local who thinks she doesn’t belong.
Piper Bellinger is fashionable, influential, and her reputation as a wild child means the paparazzi are constantly on her heels. When too much champagne and an out-of-control rooftop party lands Piper in the slammer, her stepfather decides enough is enough. So he cuts her off, and sends Piper and her sister to learn some responsibility running their late father’s dive bar… in Washington.
Piper hasn’t even been in Westport for five minutes when she meets big, bearded sea captain Brendan, who thinks she won’t last a week outside of Beverly Hills. So what if Piper can’t do math, and the idea of sleeping in a shabby apartment with bunk beds gives her hives. How bad could it really be? She’s determined to show her stepfather—and the hot, grumpy local—that she’s more than a pretty face.
Except it’s a small town and everywhere she turns, she bumps into Brendan. The fun-loving socialite and the gruff fisherman are polar opposites, but there’s an undeniable attraction simmering between them. Piper doesn’t want any distractions, especially feelings for a man who sails off into the sunset for weeks at a time. Yet as she reconnects with her past and begins to feel at home in Westport, Piper starts to wonder if the cold, glamorous life she knew is what she truly wants. LA is calling her name, but Brendan—and this town full of memories—may have already caught her heart.

IT HAPPENED ONE SUMMER BY TESSA BAILEY
AUDIOBOOK REVIEW
I received a copy of this book from the publisher for free in exchange for an honest review. My opinions have not been influenced by the publisher or the author.
I don’t often listen to romance books, but I make exceptions. And I’m really glad I did with this book, because IT HAPPENED ONE SUMMER was an audiobook I would recommend anytime.
The reason why I picked up this book was without a doubt the comparison to Alexa from Schitt’s Creek. The novel and plot itself has nothing to do with Schitt’s Creek, but Piper does certainly have some similarities with Alexa – and I loved it!!
Also, I’m a HUGE fan of Alaskan bush pilots, and apparently fishermen are also high on my list of book boyfriend material. I thought the idea of making the hero a grumpy but assertive fisherman and setting the book in a little town on the Northern West Coast was a great one and made Brendan very attractive in my eyes, even more so than already described.
Also the book had many great relationships. Piper and Hannah were adorable. Truly, sisters who are tight make for great foundations to build on. And absolutely love it that each sister gets her own love interest – best friends dating sisters – a plot that never gets old.
When it comes to the main couple, Brendan and Piper were wonderful together. Loved their bander. Loved how much Brendan was interested in Piper and actively pursued her. And for Piper it was a wake up call after the ugly break up with her past. It was actually quite eye-opening to meet a man who loved everything about her, exactly the way she was. Although her character growth throughout the book was really well done.
Overall, I had fun with this light hearted romance. The banter was great. The relationships between the characters were even better. And the romance although sexy, wasn’t overly steamy which I was happy about. The book was a successful read for me. I laughed and chuckled my way through it and I can’t wait to read Hannah’s book, which I’ll be listening to as well, since my request for the ARC got denied. Oh well.

It Happened One Summer by Tessa Bailey | AUDIOBOOK REVIEW
I’m glad you liked this one! I did too, minus the whole typhoon thing. Should have just been a giant storm, but I get why she did that. I liked the second book even more. It’s too bad you didn’t get an ARC!
I just wait patiently for the audiobook 😀 – and I agree with you, some authors always have to go a step further than necessary.
I have been hearing some great things about this one here. And if I decide to pick it up I will definitely take your recommendation to heart and listen to this one.
Lovely review.
It’s a great book to add to a tbr 😀
Great review! This sounds like a fun romance 🙂 I haven’t read Tessa Bailey’s newer stuff yet but I had no idea this was also a new series! Will definitely have to check it out.
I haven’t read much of her newer stuff either. I’m not a fan of her sexy times, and most of her more recent books have been DNF so I took a break on her books. But I’m glad I gave this one a go 😀
Great review! It sounds like an adorable romance!
It kinda was 😀 and thank you!!!
Wonderful review Corina. I enjoyed the story and the characters. My only issue was all the dirty talk and the sex scenes, but that is because I am old and bit prudish. I do want to read Hannah’s story thought.
I’m not a fan of the sex scenes either, but I compared to some of her others she tamed it down, and I hope, Hannah’s story will be the same or even less. Otherwise we just have to skip them 😀
I heard it is a sweeter story, fingers crossed.
This review has me SO excited to read this book! I’m bringing it with me to college and I already know it’s going to be such a great relief amidst crazy schoolwork! I too am also a huge fan of Alaskan bush pilots (shoutout to The Simple Wild) so I honestly think I will fall in LOVE with this fisherman! Great review 🙂
I can see you having fun with it, the light hearted story is perfect for study breaks – good luck!!! 😀
Great review! This was one of my favorites from Tessa!
Kayla, I believe I’m right there with you 😀
