‘Dark, dangerous things happened around the Hollow sisters. Everybody knew it.’
The Hollow sisters – Vivi, Grey and Iris – are as seductively glamorous as they are mysterious. They have black eyes and hair as white as milk. The Hollow sisters don’t have friends – they don’t need them. They move through the corridors like sharks, the other little fish parting around them, whispering behind their backs.
And everyone knows who the Hollow sisters are. Because one day the three Hollow sisters simply disappeared. And when they came back, one month later, with no memory of where they had been, it was as if nothing had changed. Almost nothing, Apart from, for example, the little scar that had appeared in the hollow of their throats … and a whispering sense that something is not quite right about them, despite (or maybe because of) the terrible passion to be with them that they can exert on anybody at will…
A thrilling, twisting, novel that is as seductive and glamorous as the Hollow sisters themselves….

HOUSE OF HOLLOW BY KRYSTAL SUTHERLAND
AUDIOBOOK REVIEW
I love reading outside my comfort zone, and anything that even sounds like horror is usually on my no-go list. BUT I made exceptions in the past. Earlier this year I read RING SHOUT, and last year I picked up The Southern Book Club’s Guide to Slaying Vampires. Both books had some really creepy moments but mostly they were really original stories with a smidgen of horror. I also love it when a novel is atmospheric, eery, and has a darker vibe. Both Simone St. James novels, The Sundown Motel and Broken Girls fit that bill.
HOUSE OF HOLLOW is a young adult novel which was wonderfully atmospheric as well as creepy. A bit gory too, but nothing that would have made me uncomfortable. The dark and mysterious vibe of the book took me on a journey that started out slow but really picked up in the second half. Parts horror, parts folklore, the novel was original from the get go.
The story was plot driven, which is something that will make it harder for me to connect with the characters right away. But thanks to vivid writing with fantastic imagery, the plot eventually pulled me in. And the closer we got to the climax the harder it became to put it down. The second half of the book was my favorite for sure.
Besides the great writing, I really loved the sisters, and found their connection incredibly fascinating. There were so many secrets, and this big mystery that took over their lives. The book was told from the POV of the youngest sister, Iris. She was the most innocent, the most relatable. Iris and her sisters had this really interesting dynamic. They were so very different, thanks to a mysterious bond. And I was fascinated by the older two sisters, and the way they managed their lives. Overall, there was just something so unexplainable about them, an almost tangible vibe in the air, that kept me guessing.
In the end, the novel started out slow, but the further I got into the book the more I got invested. And I actually would love to read a sequel if the author ever decided to write one. Because the ending was the perfect beginning for a second book.
