FABLE
For seventeen-year-old Fable, the daughter of the most powerful trader in the Narrows, the sea is the only home she has ever known. It’s been four years since the night she watched her mother drown during an unforgiving storm. The next day her father abandoned her on a legendary island filled with thieves and little food. To survive she must keep to herself, learn to trust no one, and rely on the unique skills her mother taught her. The only thing that keeps her going is the goal of getting off the island, finding her father, and demanding her rightful place beside him and his crew. To do so Fable enlists the help of a young trader named West to get her off the island and across the Narrows to her father.
But her father’s rivalries and the dangers of his trading enterprise have only multiplied since she last saw him, and Fable soon finds that West isn’t who he seems. Together, they will have to survive more than the treacherous storms that haunt the Narrows if they’re going to stay alive.
Welcome to a world made dangerous by the sea and by those who wish to profit from it. Where a young girl must find her place and her family while trying to survive in a world built for men. Fable takes you on a spectacular journey filled with romance, intrigue, and adventure.
NAMESAKE
Welcome to a world made dangerous by the sea and by those who wish to profit from it. Where a young girl must find her place and her family while trying to survive in a world built for men.
With the Marigold ship free of her father, Fable and the rest of the crew were set to start over. That freedom is short-lived when Fable becomes a pawn in a notorious thug’s scheme. In order to get to her intended destination, she must help him to secure a partnership with Holland, a powerful gem trader who is more than she seems.
As Fable descends deeper into a world of betrayal and deception, she learns that the secrets her mother took to her grave are now putting the people Fable cares about in danger. If Fable is going to save them, then she must risk everything—including the boy she loves and the home she has finally found.

FABLE & NAMESAKE BY ADRIENNE YOUNG AUDIOBOOK REVIEW
I received a copy of this book from the publisher for free in exchange for an honest review. All opinions expressed are my own.
First I wanted to talk about how much I adore the book covers. I think they are the most gorgeous designs ever. And the way they fit so perfectly together is a dream. I can’t describe how much it pleases me to look at them next to each other. Kudos to the designer.
I always loved pirate stories, pirate movies, and stories about adventures on the big sea. The world building in FABLE and NAMESAKE was just the right amount of imaginative without going over board. And the story was just interesting enough without being too complicated and too layered. The duet is perfect for anyone wanting to try YA fantasy without being pulled into a long complicated series.
When it comes to the main character Fable, I really enjoyed how brave and smart she was, without being too perfect. She wasn’t infallible and she definitely made mistakes. But she was also much more mature than I thought she would be with seventeen years.
I also really enjoyed the background of the duet, and the research the author put into ship building, sailing, and a life on sea. The storyline and descriptions felt and sounded realistic, even somber at times, especially when it came to the hardworking crew.
The crew of the Marigold and their relationships was a highlight of the duet. I loved the maturity of the characters which was palpable from their interactions to their relationships. Especially the relationships. I loved the father/daughter bond between Fable and Saint, and the romantic relationship between Fable and West.
I was very satisfied with the overall outcome of the books. Although the duet didn’t give me a book hangover. I’m also not regretting picking them up. The story was easy to get into, which is always nice when it comes to fantasy books, and the main couple was easy to root for. I really enjoyed Fable and West, and thought they matched very well.
All in all this is a duet I would recommend to anyone wanting to try a YA fantasy. But I would also suggest to have both books ready before starting FABLE. Because the first book ends on a cliffhanger and I guarantee that you will want to pick up NAMESAKE right away.
About the audiobook: I borrowed the first book from the library and received the second audiobook from the publisher. I liked the narration well enough, it was easy to get into it, and it held my attention. I wouldn’t say it was the best performance I ever listened to but it wasn’t bad either. It’s an audiobook I would easily recommend.
FOUR STARS FOR THE ENTIRE DUET

I’m definitely curious to look into this duet now- great review! Also I agree, the covers are stunning, I love how they line up.
I don’t think there ever has been book covers that were designed this way, love it!! And they make for a great YA fantasy duet, if that’s something you are interested in.
