Welcome to a world made dangerous by the sea and by those who wish to profit from it. Where a young girl must find her place and her family while trying to survive in a world built for men.
As the daughter of the most powerful trader in the Narrows, the sea is the only home seventeen-year-old Fable has ever known. Itβs been four years since the night she watched her mother drown during an unforgiving storm. The next day her father abandoned her on a legendary island filled with thieves and little food. To survive she must keep to herself, learn to trust no one and rely on the unique skills her mother taught her. The only thing that keeps her going is the goal of getting off the island, finding her father and demanding her rightful place beside him and his crew. To do so Fable enlists the help of a young trader named West to get her off the island and across the Narrows to her father.
But her fatherβs rivalries and the dangers of his trading enterprise have only multiplied since she last saw him and Fable soon finds that West isn’t who he seems. Together, they will have to survive more than the treacherous storms that haunt the Narrows if they’re going to stay alive.

MY THOUGHTS & REVIEW
Although I’m not a regular YA fantasy reader, I like to stretch my wings now and then and give books I usually wouldn’t pick up a chance. Because you never know.
This time it was FABLE and I’m really glad I decided to go for it, because I ended up really enjoying it. And I’m actually exited about the sequel.
I think the parts I enjoyed the most about this book was the pirate vibe, the well written story, and the intriguing characters, especially Fable and West.
Fable was such a strong heroine. A survivalist, skilled and smart. Her backstory was really interesting, equally fascinating and dark. And I admired her for following her goal. The way she found a spot on West’s crew says a lot about her personality – she was tough and determined.
Speaking about the crew, which was small, but fierce, I’m looking forward to reading more about them. They were loyal, almost like family, and they kept secrets when needed.
The story was wonderfully original, with the Sea as backdrop. There was so much to love – action, deadly rivalry, a father who doesn’t seem to care about Fable, a new crew to fit in, treasures, and maybe even a love story.
If I had the chance of jumping into Namesake (the sequel and final book in this duology) I would have!! I was literally hooked, and can’t wait to find out what will happen next.

Fable and Namesake are both very good and I love the pirate feel too. Itβs not too YA for a YA fantasy so probably an excellent choice for spreading your wings with. Wonderful review!
Tessa, I wonder if maybe because it didn’t feel too YA to me, that I might have liked it more because of it.
I have heard really good things about this one! I liked Young’s debut book. I hope the sequel is equally great!
I’m really thinking about picking up her debut duet. I’m curious to see if I end up liking it too π
Okay, you talked me into reading this one. I am not a YA fantasy reader, either. I only read the over hyped ones. LOL. I think I’m going to see if my library has this on audio.
I didn’t know what to except, but I was pleasantly surprised, and I was definitely hooked. I’m curious to see what you think of it π
Your photo is so pretty! I loved Fable too and you are right, if I had the chance to read Namesake now I’d give my right arm for it!!!
thank you π, and right? I was so involved and hooked, it was hard not to be able to move on to the next one. Hopefully the wait won’t be too long.
I keep looking for a date on Amazon but can’t find one π
On my side it says March 16, 2021 – which isn’t that far out π
Ooo ill put that on my countdown, thanks! We don’t have any date here yet so hope its the same!!!
I loved Fable too but…have no hope of an ARC of Namesake sadly.
ah, let’s wait until release day together π
Nice review! I’m looking forward to reading Namesake too. π
Thank you :D, I’m curious to see how it all ends.
I am so happy you fell for this one here!! I just love it when we stretch our wings in our reading and brings back great returns when we take that leap.
Great review.
I really felt good about my 2020 reading list, loved how many diverse genres I read, and I love spreading my wings, makes me read books I wouldn’t have read otherwise.
I LOVED Fable and it was a huge surprise because it wasn’t even on my radar! I actually got an e-ARC of Namesake but haven’t read it yet… I had to finish some challenges this month but plan to jump in next month!!
