Set on the desert planet Arrakis, Dune is the story of the boy Paul Atreides, heir to a noble family tasked with ruling an inhospitable world where the only thing of value is the “spice” melange, a drug capable of extending life and enhancing consciousness. Coveted across the known universe, melange is a prize worth killing for…
When House Atreides is betrayed, the destruction of Paul’s family will set the boy on a journey toward a destiny greater than he could ever have imagined. And as he evolves into the mysterious man known as Muad’Dib, he will bring to fruition humankind’s most ancient and unattainable dream.

BOOK REVIEW
MY THOUGHTS
DUNE has been on my tbr for years. And I mean years!! I watched the TV shows when I was in my late teens, early twenties. Loved the atmosphere. And the love story the plot was centered around. And when I found out that there was a new movie in the works I knew I wanted to try to read the book before release date.
Now I’ve read the book, only to find out that the movie has been postponed to 2021. But thanks to a fantastic audiobook experience, with a full cast and even special effects, I had one of the best listening experiences of 2020. And it felt GOOD to finally be able to check it off my tbr.

Interestingly enough it was easy to get into the story. It’s so well done. Well written, with characters that are easily discernible, and a plot that is full of action, intrigue, and possibilities.
Honestly, there is a reason why there are 806,439 ratings on Goodreads with a 4.23 star rating. It was published in 1965, is over 600 pages long and much of the book has been taken as inspiration by George Lucas for his Star Wars trilogy. Like one of his locations is a dessert planet. He uses mining of Spice, as well as a fat villain sitting on a dais. And there is the power to control others with speech, plus multiple plot twists that were taken from Dune.
Intrigued yet?
How about if I tell you that a love story (which I already mentioned above) is part of the main plot?
That’s what I adored the most about this story. An epic love story!!!!!
I watched the shows whenever they were streamed, and will be watching the movie probably more than once when it comes out. AND it’s the reason why I bought this gorgeous special edition, with sprayed edges, a gorgeous naked cover and beautiful art in the inside of the dust jacket.

So, if you are in the mood for some epic science fiction, and you are a lover of audiobooks, you must give this version a chance. The full cast makes this audiobook one of the best listening experiences for audio fans. And not surprisingly it won the Audie Awards in 2008 for the science fiction category.

Dune by Frank Herbert
I had no idea Dune’s audiobook was so good. I never read it but I might take a chance on the audiobook, I’ll check on Libby. 🙂
I can only recommend it, but make sure you’ll get the one with the full cast, from 2006. I’m pretty sure there a couple different editions out there.
Great review! I’ve also had Dune on my TBR for quite a while but I have to admit that it intimidates the heck out of me 😂 But it’s good to know the audiobook was so good–might have to give it a try!
