Daisy Jones & The Six is a gripping novel about the whirlwind rise of an iconic 1970s rock group and their beautiful lead singer, revealing the mystery behind their infamous breakup.
Everyone knows Daisy Jones & The Six, but nobody knows the reason behind their split at the absolute height of their popularity . . . until now.
Daisy is a girl coming of age in L.A. in the late sixties, sneaking into clubs on the Sunset Strip, sleeping with rock stars, and dreaming of singing at the Whisky a Go Go. The sex and drugs are thrilling, but it’s the rock and roll she loves most. By the time she’s twenty, her voice is getting noticed, and she has the kind of heedless beauty that makes people do crazy things.
Also getting noticed is The Six, a band led by the brooding Billy Dunne. On the eve of their first tour, his girlfriend Camila finds out she’s pregnant, and with the pressure of impending fatherhood and fame, Billy goes a little wild on the road.
Daisy and Billy cross paths when a producer realizes that the key to supercharged success is to put the two together. What happens next will become the stuff of legend.
The making of that legend is chronicled in this riveting and unforgettable novel, written as an oral history of one of the biggest bands of the seventies. Taylor Jenkins Reid is a talented writer who takes her work to a new level with Daisy Jones & The Six, brilliantly capturing a place and time in an utterly distinctive voice.

MY THOUGHTS & REVIEW
Check out the BEST AUDIOBOOKS OF 2020
Even though I own the hardcover, I chose to listen to the audiobook. And boy was I right!!! The format the book is written in – interview style – comes best across in audiobook form.
The fictional author of the book interviews the band, manager, friends, Rolling Stone journalist and anyone else who was close to the band at the time of their success. As a result the audiobook has probably more than 15 different narrators. And I must admit I was fascinated by they story and the different POVs from the very first chapter.
I’m not much of a music lover. But I’ve always been fascinated by the age of rock ‘n’ roll, drugs, festivals, and groupies. It must have been such a different time. It sounded like everyone enjoyed life to the fullest. And of course, a book about a fictional rock group, will have its share of drama, that’s a given.
DAISY JONES & THE SIX was the motherlode
When I read rockstar romances, some authors barely touch on the topic of lyric writing. Or the craziness of artists, their demands, fights within the band, groupies, journalists and media, and everything else that is part of being a successful and international renowned band. They romanticize it to a point where it doesn’t feel edgy and authentic anymore. And that’s my issue with this trope most of the time. I miss the tantalizing, or just plain shocking parts of the music industry.
This book has it all
The ups and downs. Unrequited love. As well as personal failures and struggles. The dynamic and hierarchy within a band. The process of lyric writing. The story pretty much covered the bad, the good and the ugly.
Now, back to the audiobook. Some of the narrators are known actors (Jennifer Beals, Benjamin Bratt, Judy Greer, Pablo Schreiber) and it shows in the quality of the narration. The pauses, sighs, and nuances made this audiobook a contender for an Oscar. I was blown away by it. Honestly, I haven’t listened to any other audiobook that was this well done, besides Jim Dale’s narration of Harry Potter.
This book will be one of my most recommended audiobooks EVER. Obviously it won’t be for everyone. But wow, what an experience.

?????
I totally agree with this review. The audiobook was Oscar worthy.
Just amazing!! I’m curious about the show – wonder how it all will turn out.
I hope it’s good — and I hope it actually comes about after all of this.
I hope it stays as close to the book as possible. Have you heard about Little Fires Everywhere, apparently peeler aren’t that impressed by it, and it’s done by Reese too. ?
Oh, no!
love this review and also your photo, wow, stunning! I can’t wait for this to be adapted.
thank you ? and same!! I have such high expectations, which is never a good thing, but still I’m very excited!!
ain’t that the truth!!
This one is very high on my TBR! and now I kinda want to get the audiobook instead 😀
OMG you HAVE to!!!! Everyone says that the audiobook brings the book to live. It’s a full cast and the narrators are so good at what they are doing! Can’t put in words how much this book entranced me!
The audio was EVERYTHING. This one isn’t my genre, but I’m certain if it wasn’t for the audio, I wouldn’t have enjoyed this as much as I did.
I would agree, the audio made all the difference to me, it actually is one of the BEST audiobooks I’ve listened to.
Wow, amazing review Corina. To be honest, I’m hesitant to read this one. I’ve only read one book by this author, The 7 Husbands of Evelyn Hugo, and that one deserves 10 stars for me. So I’m a little scared that this doesn’t live up to that book. 🙂
By the way, your graphics are gorgeous. You’re a great photographer. 🙂
Thank you ? Daisy Jones couldn’t be more different to Evelyn if it tried. There is really no comparison. Not only is the format very different, but also the story with its many characters. If you go into the book with an open mind, and if you enjoy music, you’ll love it.
Great. I’m sure I’ll read it one day. I have a copy. ?
I hope you’ll end up loving it 😀
Thank you. 🙂 🙂
