And I just finished All Boys Aren't Blue by George M. Johnson on my walk this morning.

Every single one was fascinating and eye opening. It allowed for a glimpse behind the curtains so to speak.

When I read Open Book by Jessica Simpson a few months ago I was blown away by how well it was done, her own narration was superb, and I loved listening to her talk about her childhood, how she all started out, and of course the men in her life.

I’ve never been a big fan of her, honestly I’ve never really been big into music, but she was someone I listened to when I was a teenager, her, Christina, and Britney. I loved how open she was in the book, unapologetically herself, she talked about disappointments, failures, and PR nightmares.

It’s officially July, what book did you finish J

It’s officially July, what book did you finish June with?

The last book I read in June was Under Currents by Nora Roberts, I decided a re-read was in order, but I also started the audiobook for I Was Told It Would Get Easier by Abbi Waxman. I’m more than halfway through and I’m really enjoying it. I’m also pretty optimistic that I’ll finish it today, which will make it my first book of the second half of 2020.

The difference in generations couldn’t be more obvious in this book. Teenager vs parent. And surprisingly I can relate to both. It was fascinating to see how each interpreted each other’s thoughts. How they both struggled with their relationship. And how hard it can be on both generations, the misunderstandings, misconceptions, the impatience on both sides. It felt real, authentic and something everyone can relate to.

I’m hooked on the audio, and I chuckled out loud while I was on my morning walk earlier today, hoping nobody was close enough to see me smile like a crazy person.

I Was Told It Would Get Easier is definitely women’s fiction, and it’s all about the relationship between mother and daughter or the lack thereof. It’s well written, flows well, the narration is wonderful, and it makes me chuckle - can’t ask for more.

How is your Monday going so far? And how was your weekend? What have you been reading?

I’m currently between books, so I thought I’ll post a couple mini reviews today.

After Sundown by Linda Howard, Linda Jones // 4.5 stars
Honestly when I picked this one up I didn’t expect to love it. Although I love Linda Howard books her collaborations are usually not my cup of tea. Color me surprised when I read this one, and re-read it before it even was released. I think the reason why this one checks all my boxes is a) I loved the topic, a solar storm is coming, and the life as it’s knows is pretty much over. I actually read this book before Covid 19, but feel like it couldn’t be more timely - lol. And b) I loved the couple, although it’s more of a slow burn, I really enjoyed them. And the book focuses quite a bit on the preparation, and it was quite eye-opening.

The Southern Book Club's Guide to Slaying Vampires by Grady Hendrix // 3 stars
This one was a real surprise. It was my first book by this author, and I don’t think it really synced with me. On the other hand I thought the author did a fabulous job with the creep factor, he did it so well that I was this close 👌🏼 skipping certain parts because they were too much for me. Also the book focused more on the social aspects and lives of suburban moms than the vampires, which doesn’t make it a classical vampire novel, but rather something uniquely different.

The Jane Austen Society by Natalie Jenner // 4 stars
I thought this one was perfect comfort food. The story follows quite a few characters, and the connection to Jane Austen was wonderfully done. In the end I wanted to go for a visit myself and travel in her footsteps. Also, the audiobook is narrated by Richard Armitage 💕, and I could have listened even longer, thanks to the story and his voice.

Open Book by Jessica Simpson // 4 stars
I’ve never been a FAN of hers, but I must admit this book was very well done. And I had a great time listening to her narrate aspects of her life, successes as well as disappointments in a very candid way. Anyone loving memoirs, especially about celebrities will enjoy this book.

The “what’s your favorite trope” is one of the most asked questions on Bookstagram.

And by now most of you know that enemies to lovers, or hate to love is my favorite. And I know that many of you feel the same.

I read You Deserve Each Other by Sarah Hogle this month. And I must say, if you love this trope you must give it a try, the author takes it to the extreme which also makes it a very unique and different take on the enemies to lovers romance.

Not only is the couple already together (we rarely get romances about already established couples) but throughout the first 2/3 of the book they push each other buttons constantly, and there were times when I was actually wondering why they got engaged in the first place - lol.

But besides all that, I couldn’t stop reading the book.

And I must say that the last 30% were fantastic!! In one word - swoony!

My overall thought when it comes to this novel is - that’s its DIFFERENT!!! And that’s what I love about books the most! When authors color outside the lines. You Deserve Each Other stands out from the crowd. I‘m somewhere in the middle when it comes to this book (I had too many issues with these two to love it) but in the end it was a really unique romance and definitely worthy to be checked out.

What format is your current read: hardcover, paperback, ebook or audiobook?

As alway I’m reading multiple books.

I’m listening 🎧 to Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe by Benjamin Alire Sáenz. I’m also on the second to last chapter of Take a Hint, Dani Brown by Talia Hibbert, it’s on my 💻, that’s why I’m currently listening to two different audiobooks.

And I just started the e-Arc of Boyfriend Material by Alexis Hall yesterday.

I’m also making my way through 📖 the hardcover of The Girl with the Louding Voice by Abi Daré.

I’m almost done with the audiobook of Take a Hint, Dani Brown by Talia Hibbert and I’m having a blast!

There are quite a few things I enjoy about this book. But most of all I’ve fallen in love with Danika and Zaf.

Oh how I adore Danika, what a woman!! Unapologetically herself, comfortable in her skin, outspoken, witty, flirty, and I just love her sarcasm.

And then there is Zaf, what a dream guy!! Supportive in every way, and he pays attention (I love that in a man). He is a big softy on the inside, burly on the outside, and he also is quite the lover!

And the way they clicked as a couple was GOAL, it was especially tangible in their interactions, and definitely in bed.

Overall this was a fun book. My first one by this author since I never got around to read Chloe’s story. But I was able to read and enjoy this one without prior knowledge. The book makes for a great summer read, and yay for perfect timing, it was just published.

I listened to the audiobook, thanks to @harperaudio, and the narration was excellent!! If you have Take a Hint, Dani Brown on your tbr for this year, and you haven’t bought a copy yet, I’m giving away the one pictured above. .

Happy Monday! How was your weekend? What are you reading?

I’m between books, waiting for a highly anticipated book to be released tonight at 9pm, and I’m actually thinking about pulling an all nighter. We’ll see how it goes.

And to all my fellow MZ fans, have you heard the news? I can’t wait for July to come. We are finally getting a new book.

But now about today’s feature book, Dance Away with Me by Susan Elizabeth Phillips.

I was exhilarated when I received a free copy from @tlcbooktours, @williammorrowbooks. The author has been on my tbr for 15 years now. I read ALL of her books. And It Had to Be You (Chicago Stars, #1) was actually one of the first sports romances I ever read.

If you haven’t read her books yet, my most favorite is still Breathing Room (set in Italy) and i’ll never forget the beaver costume in Natural Born Charmer, I laughed so much reading this book.

So yeah, I’m excited to start Dance Away with Me, her latest release, out NOW.

I’m re-listening to A Man Called Ove which is my favorite Fredrik Backman book, so 👍🏼👍🏼, and I also gave 👍🏼 to the book featured in today’s post.

Long Way Down by Jason Reynolds

I listened to the audiobook and afterwards I got the book from the library because I didn’t realize while listening to it, that the story was written in free verse. The book is fantastic, and it’s a pretty fast read too, only 2 hours of audiobook. I would recommend listening, hearing the author’s voice AND reading at the same time, the verses are beautiful. It’s a MUST read, for anyone wanting to add to their BLM tbr.

I honestly have no idea what I’ll be reading this weekend. Nothing jumps out at me at the moment, but I’ll be reading something for sure.
