Nora Stephens’ life is books—she’s read them all—and she is not that type of heroine. Not the plucky one, not the laidback dream girl, and especially not the sweetheart. In fact, the only people Nora is a heroine for are her clients, for whom she lands enormous deals as a cutthroat literary agent, and her beloved little sister Libby.
Which is why she agrees to go to Sunshine Falls, North Carolina for the month of August when Libby begs her for a sisters’ trip away—with visions of a small-town transformation for Nora, who she’s convinced needs to become the heroine in her own story. But instead of picnics in meadows, or run-ins with a handsome country doctor or bulging-forearmed bartender, Nora keeps bumping into Charlie Lastra, a bookish brooding editor from back in the city. It would be a meet-cute if not for the fact that they’ve met many times and it’s never been cute.
If Nora knows she’s not an ideal heroine, Charlie knows he’s nobody’s hero, but as they are thrown together again and again—in a series of coincidences no editor worth their salt would allow—what they discover might just unravel the carefully crafted stories they’ve written about themselves.

AUDIOBOOK REVIEW
Ever since I struggled with BEACH READ (DNFed it multiple times) I switched over to listening to her books and it works for me. I LOVE listening to Emily Henry books. Maybe because no other than Julie Whelan narrates her books. The woman could read her grocery list and I’ll listen to her.
This is an ode to Nora and Charlie!!!
For me, the one thing that makes BOOK LOVERS a great read was the relationship, banter and amazing chemistry between Nora and Charlie. I can’t remember a book where the couple is so in tune and understand each other so well. It’s like they are the missing piece of one another, and when they finally find each other they FIT.
Nora and Charlie are the reason I would recommend this book to everyone. Not because Emily Henry (who has become insanely popular) wrote it. But because they are just amazingly beautiful written. The characters definitely carry the book for me.
They start out as enemies, getting on each others nerves, annoying each other just right for snarky and dry witted conversations. GOLD!!!
Also, I love it when it’s obvious that characters fall for each other. Not because it’s described, but because it can actually be FELT. And Charlie falls HARD for Nora and it’s the BEST thing to experience.
And thanks to the narration, I laughed and chuckled my way through their interactions.
Of course the book is more than just Nora and Charlie. Both have some things to work through. As so often family makes life more difficult at times, but I enjoyed the way the author makes it all work.
I’m at a point where I’m actually looking forward to Emily Henry books, which is a great compliment, especially coming from someone who didn’t enjoy her debut book as much as everyone else. So, let’s see what she comes up with next.
If you are interested in audiobooks, and you don’t have a big selection at your local library (which provides 90% of my audiobooks) I can only recommend Audible to you. The best thing about reading a romance is when the reader can “feel” that level of emotion and connection. I know many are loving this one and I am so happy that the same hold true for you! I hope you are well and thriving.
Great review!
Exactly, sadly it doesn’t happen often now days, but when it happens the stories stand out from the crowd.
Wonderful review, Corina. I am still waiting for my name to come up at the library. I am happy to hear that the characters are wonderful in this one.
Thank you Carla, the wait at the library can be long, but I’m always so grateful for having the opportunity, especially in a time when the news about publishing houses vs libraries make me sad.
It makes me sad as well. There are too many people who can not afford to purchase books and this could cause issues for sure.
