21 Books I Want to Read in 2021
Inspiration from Robin at Paperbacks and Planners

What books are on your tbr?
I must admit I love new releases. And I usually read them as soon as they are beign released. That means most of the books on my tbr are new and upcoming. But I also have backlist books on my tbr. And they are usually the books I wanted to read but haven’t found the right time for it yet.
There are some that I’ve I already started but put down again. But they never felt like a DNF, it was more like a “not the right time” kind of situation.
So I’m hoping with this tbr I hold myself accountable, or at least remind myself of the books I’ve wanted to read for awhile. And now I have twelve months to check some of them off my to do list, maybe even all.
If you have read any of the books, and you want to share your thoughts, feel free to leave a comment below. Would love to hear your opinion. Also what book has been on your tbr for the longest?
Also a big thanks to Robin at Paperbacks and Planners for the inspiration. Sometimes all that’s needed is an idea.
Now, let’s get started….
21 Books I Want to Read in 2021

Little Women
I’ve had Little Women on my tbr for years. And I actually wanted to read it last year in time for the movie adaptation, which I still haven’t watched because I said I would read the book first. But I’m hoping 2021 is the year.

The Ninth House
I’ve started this book TWO times already, and put it down both times. Third time is the charm. Honestly I don’t really know what the issue is, but I’m not giving up. Especially now when I have my Waterstones edition on my bookshelf. Got to read it now!!!

Saving Ruby King
I’ve had this book on my tbr since last year. Last year was definitely a year my reading was the most diverse and I would like to keep it that way in 2021.

The Song of Achilles
Oh boy, what can I say, this book has been on my tbr since I read CIRCE in 2018. And since then I’ve been pushing it from on tbr to the next. Maybe 2021 is going to be the year.

The Guest List
I’m embarrassed to admit, but I got this as a NetGalley ARC and hope I can finally check it off my to do list this year. I’m actually interested in reading The Hunting Party as well, and maybe I can even read them both this year.

Kitchen Confidential: Adventures in the Culinary Underbelly
I had this book on my tbr for multiple years now. It’s probably the book that has been on my tbr the longest. Although I’ve heard that afterwards I might not want to go to a restaurant again – lol.

The Color Purple
This book is a newer addition to my tbr. I watched the movie many years ago, but can’t remember much of it besides Whoopi Goldberg. Last year I got the idea of reading the book, and I hope I’ll actually get to it this year. Also this edition is GORGEOUS, and it would mean that if I do read it, I can finally buy the book.

The Princess Bride
I found this illustrated edition of The Princess Bride and want it so badly. I’m a huge fan of the movie, and have had a Princess Bride book on my wishlist for many years, but never bought one. 2021 is the year, for buying the book and me finally reading it.

The Great Alone
I was supposed to read this book last year. If I’m not mistaken it was a buddy read – which I spectacularly failed. But I’m hopeful. Also, I have the author’s new release on my radar too. We’ll see which one I read first.

The Vanishing Half
Another book from 2020 tbr I didn’t get to. I’ve heard only amazing things about this novel, but I must admit that it wasn’t a priority last year. I’m hoping to change that this year.

Oathbringer
Oh boy, this is highly embarrassing but I haven’t read the third book of the Starlight Archive yet, even though I LOVED the first two books. My only excuse, each book is a huge commitment. Over 1000 pages long or 40 hours on audiobook. Whatever I pick, it’s going to take time. And I haven’t found the right time yet. I hope 2021 will be the year. But I’m also thinking about re-reading book one and two first, and then continuing on with book three and four. It’s been years, and I’ve forgotten so much already since then. But whatever I’ll do it will take time either way.

Columbine
I don’t often read non-fiction, but every year I read a couple and I’ve wanted to read this book for a very long time!! It’s an understatement if I say that I need to be in the right mood for this book. The topic alone is a hard one. But I also feel I would learn something from an event I’ve heard about but don’t really know much about it. I like to change that.

Know My Name
Know My Name is another book I have to be in the mood for. I started the audiobook in 2019, but it wasn’t the right book at the right time. Hoping 2021 will be the right year.

This Is Going to Hurt: Secret Diaries of a Medical Resident
This book is another one that has been on my tbr for multiple years. It sounds interesting, funny and I actually have the Christmas edition Twas the Nightshift Before Christmas on my tbr too. I’m hoping to read both this year.

44 Chapters About 4 Men
When I found out that the book is being adapted by Netflix, I knew it’s time to read it. I actually have been wanting to read this novel for much longer, but as so often my plans derailed. So, I’m hoping to squeeze it in this year.

The Invincible Summer of Juniper Jones
I’ve heard only the most amazing things about this book and it’s one of the few books I already own from this list. Now I just need to find the time to read it. Hoping since it’s on already my bookshelf I’ll get to it sooner than later – but we’ll see.

Notorious RBG: The Life and Times of Ruth Bader Ginsburg
A book that I’ve wanted to read for a couple years now. As always I need to be in the mood for a non-fiction title. But I hope 2021 is the year and afterwards I’ll watch the movie On the Basis of Sex.

I’ll Meet You There
This is one of the books that made it across the pond in my luggage. Now I just need to find the time to read it. Going through the list, it’s actually quite embarrassing how many books I have been pushing from one tbr to the next.

Where the Forest Meets the Stars
This book has an ridiculous amount of 5 star ratings on Amazon, and I’ve been intrigued by it ever since I stumbled across it, but I’ve yet to pick it up. Thanks to Amazon WhisperSync I get the Kindle Unlimited book and the audiobook for free. So I better get to it before my KU subscription runs out in April.

Darius the Great Is Not Okay
Another book I wanted to read for a long time. And another book that I need to be in the mood for, but I’m hopeful 2021 will be the year.

Homegoing
Last but not least, Homegoing. The book is a newer addition to my tbr, and it’s another book I have to be in the mood for.
I really hope that at the end of the year I read at least half of them. Let’s just say that I would be very happy if I could check off half of them – lol. Doesn’t have to be all, half would be an achievement. Small steps are steps too.
21 Books I Want to Read in 2021
I have a list of those books as well Corina. There are so many books that people have recommended that I really wanted to read and they are still hanging there. Maybe one of my monthly goals will be books recommended by bloggers I follow. Good luck getting half of them read. Just read one a month and you will meet that goal.
That’s a great idea/goal. I have tons of books that were recommendations or books I’ve seen somewhere blog/bookstagram and found interesting, I should really devote one or two books a month to those novels.
I will see if I can stick to it. There are so many good books out there.
I read The Song of Achilles in December and absolutely LOVED it! It’s such a beautifully written story. I hope you get a chance to read it – I’d love to hear your thoughts!
Can’t tell you how often I’ve heard how amazing the book is. Expectations are high ☺️ I hope I’ll get to it this year.
That’s is a great list. The Colour Purple is an amazing book.
Thank you ☺️ I’m excited to get to it
I really love your blog! I’ve only read Little Women and The Ninth House. i hope you will enjoy reading all the books 😀
Loved this list! Homegoing is one of my favorite books ever! ❤
Oh wow!!! That’s quite the endorsement 😁 will have to bump it up
I HIGHLY recommend the audiobook. The narrator is amazing. He does so many voices I thought it was a full cast lol
Awesome, I love audiobooks, will request it at my library
Ninth House is the only one from the list I listened to. To be honest, if it wasn’t on audio I would have found it troublesome to read. Some books are like that. Interesting but clunky.
I’ve only read two of these. The Great Alone was good, but also as brutal to read as you would expect from Kristin Hannah. The other I read was 44 Chapters. That one was crazy.
Lol – I’m intrigued by the crazy
Great list Corina! Can’t wait to see your thoughts! Enjoy!
Such a great list, I hope you can get to most of these in 2021! I read The Vanishing Half last year and loved it, and I hope you enjoy it too!
I’ve read a few of these: Little Women, The Princess Bride, and I’ll Meet You There, but so many of the other books are on my TBR, too. Hope we both get to them this year and love them!!
Oooh, seems I need to do some catching up 😁
I really want to read Song of Achilles! This is a great TBR, so many good ones!
Song of Achilles has been on my tbr for so long – it’s a bit ridiculous
Just finished it and it was stunning! Probably my favorite book ever <3
WOW!! Now I have to bump it up 😀
The Great Alone & <iLColumbine were 5-star audio reads for me. I also enjoyed The Guest List and had to put Know My Name away for another time…probably for reasons similar to yours.
Enjoy💜
I really enjoyed The Guest List. I also struggled with Ninth House at first but I ended up enjoying it. Happy reading, Corina!
I’m not giving up on Ninth House yet -lol. And thank you, I hope the third time is the charm.
